Release: First Edition (May 11, 2014)

It's been a long road to here since Tesseract forked in the summer of 2012, but finally we have released our first public release of Tesseract.

Tesseract is not a game meant to please everyone, but it focuses on populist (instagib and CTF) gameplay while also trying to make various improvements to map editing that have only become possible with the new dynamic lighting system. It's a bit barebones, but me and Nieb had a lot of fun (+ blood, sweat, and maybe tears) getting it even to what it is now. We'll see how it evolves into the future, but for now... Enjoy!

In the tradition of Sauerbraten, we've got 3 release packages available for Windows, Linux, and Mac. Install process is more or less also following in the Sauerbraten tradition:

Windows - run the installer and the game will be ready to go from your start menu
Linux - just unpack the tarball and run tesseract_unix inside. Install SDL2.0/-image/-mixer packages from your distribution's repository as necessary.
MacOS X - disk image ready for use.

Check the main page (http://tesseract.gg) for download links.

Is there a roadmap somewhere of what you guys are hoping to do next with Tesseract? Congratulations on the first release!

Epic graphics, simple but powerful gameplay. Pretty much everything Sauer lacked added.

Congrats, this engine is very good ! In my opnion its not excelent because miss the integration with modern formats like easy .OBJ with .mtl files, .FBX too and .dae (collada)... Its a torture to put a model into the engine. Today we have a lot of 3D warehouse with thousands of models to not start from the scratch and is not possible to put this models into Tesseract because the UV Mapping is need. Im a great fan of Tesseract Team. My wish is best model support ! Easy integration, just put .OBJ with textures and .mtl and go, for collada and .fbx too. If the team put this support this engine can be one of the most popular in the game and architetural scene ! :) My view.

In fact, I would like this project to come to life.
