[MAP] Flooded City

Hello again,
my first map finished (or I think). I hope you like it, please test it and tell me. :)

You can download it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ytn065uybo1ad … ty.7z?dl=0

And you can see some screenshots here: http://infografia-libre.blogspot.com.es … uscomments

Re: [MAP] Flooded City

A couple of questions, can I export this map to Sauerbraten? and to .obj format?
Thanks.

Re: [MAP] Flooded City

I dont think there is any conversion method. I tried to load this map, and after 10 minutes, tesseract crashed.

I don't remember if obj export still exists within tess, but you definitely cannot backport maps into sauer from tess. The reverse is possible however.

I would suggest you double check the file you uploaded. It must be corrupted because my game crashes during the "loading octree..." part.

Load the map and use /writeobj <filename> to export the map into a mesh.

Ok, I´ll try with the original file, no compression.

Ok, i tried with the first one compressed, and my computer takes long time for it, but work finally...but with the changed "prueba" it works better. Please tell me if with the news you can run it.

Re: [MAP] Flooded City

I think that the problem is a lot of water...ill try to delete a lot of it, and leave only a fine layer, with a death layer over it, and see if it works with that...

Re: [MAP] Flooded City

I cannot load it still. I let my pc sit for almost 30 minutes. It didn't crash, but it never loaded

Re: [MAP] Flooded City

I delete a lot of things: a lot of useless cubes, a lot of water (it only has a layer with water and other with death over it), all the mapmodels, some lights...
I was before 3´60 mb and now it´s 2´57 mb. In my computer it takes 3 or 4 minutes loading it, and runs better.

I hope that you can run this time... https://www.dropbox.com/s/b8pk8j2hcv6wm … a.ogz?dl=0

Re: [MAP] Flooded City

I tested it in a server and it works too. Before doesn´t work but now yes and well.
You can see that it´s a little big, hehe.

This one has to work, please test it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i9tlm8qifp5su … y.ogz?dl=0

It´s exactly 2.347  kb, only takes 2 minutes loading it and it works fine in my computer. More cubes and mapmodels have been deleted this time.

Re: [MAP] Flooded City

The problem is simply that you didn't use calclight on the map at all, and made everything at the lowest possible grid size, so the high geometry counts are entirely artificial...

Re: [MAP] Flooded City

While in edit mode, press the K key to do a calclight. If you didn't do this, you'll notice a big performance boost, and your file size will drop, too. Calclight does more than just light, it optimizes the map, too.

Thanks you eihrul and kurtk, it worked very well and now it has only 331 Kb.
The new link is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/buu263qg2yids … l.ogz?dl=0

Please tell me if you see it ok.

Re: [MAP] Flooded City

I can load the map now. I dont know where to start. I'm glad to see new people experimenting with the game and mapping, but please take a look at other sauerbraten and tesseract maps for references. Dont get map and quit, but keep trying. Try to not make your areas so huge, and try to add meaningless details here and there.

Keep learning, we need the mappers!
